Schwenke & Nilo, a Chilean musical group founded in Valdivia in 1978, was initially composed of Nelson Schwenke Porflitt and Marcelo Nilo Guerra. The duo met at the Universidad Austral de Chile while studying Anthropology and Pedagogy in Musical Education, respectively. Their first compositions included "El viaje" and "Mi canto", with Schwenke writing lyrics and Nilo providing musical arrangements. Schwenke & Nilo released their self-titled debut album Schwenke & Nilo in 1983. They received a 'Disco de oro' and 'Disco de platino' for high sales volumes and were named 'Embajadores Culturales del Sur de Chile' by the Government Regional of Los Lagos in 2003. The group performed extensively across Chile, the United States, and Europe. Nelson Schwenke Porflitt passed away on June 22, 2012, following a traffic accident. Marcelo Nilo Guerra continued to lead the band.
