Cornell MacNeil, born on September 24, 1992 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was an American operatic baritone. After early vocal instruction at the Hartt School of Music, he debuted on Broadway before making his operatic breakthrough in March 1950 with The Consul at the Shubert Theatre, a role chosen by Gian Carlo Menotti. He debuted with the Metropolitan Opera in 1959, where he performed 642 times in 26 roles, including Rigoletto and Tosca. His studio recordings include Verdi: Rigoletto (1986) and Leoncavallo: Pagliacci (1993). MacNeil died on July 15, 2011 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
