Fernando Corena, born Fernando Korena on December 22, 1916, in Geneva, Switzerland, was an Italian-Turkish Swiss bass singer. He initially studied theology but turned to music after winning a vocal contest and trained under Enrico Romani in Milan. His professional debut came in 1947 as Varlaam in Boris Godunov in Trieste. Corena's career gained momentum with performances throughout Italy, including notable appearances at La Scala and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 1948. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1954 as Leporello in Don Giovanni, becoming a regular performer for over two decades. His repertoire included both dramatic and comic roles, with standout performances as Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro and Il barbiere di Siviglia. He passed away on November 26, 1984.
