Tomoharu Ushida, born 牛田 智大 on October 16, 1999, in Iwaki, Japan, is a pianist. He began playing piano at age one and started formal training after being inspired by performances of Lang Lang and Yundi Li. At thirteen, he studied under Yuri Slesarev and Vladimir Pavlovich Ovchinnikov at the Moscow Conservatory. In March 2012, Ushida released his debut album Liebesträume with Universal Classics, becoming the youngest Japanese classical pianist to do so. He performed his first recital at the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall in July of the same year. Notable achievements include winning first place in multiple divisions of the Chopin International Piano Competition in Asia from 2008 to 2012, and second place at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 2018.
