The Pursuit of Happiness was formed in 1985 by frontman Moe Berg, who relocated to Ontario to pursue a rock career. The group’s breakthrough came with the 1986 single "I'm an Adult Now", whose low-budget video gained rotation on MuchMusic and propelled the track into Canadian Top 40 territory. In 1988 the band signed with Chrysalis Records, releasing the debut album Love Junk, produced by Todd Rundgren; the re-issued "I'm an Adult Now" peaked at number 6 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart in January 1989, and the album sold over 100,000 copies in Canada, earning a platinum certification. The follow-up One Sided Story (1990) produced singles such as "New Language" and "Two Girls in One" and reinforced the group’s presence on the alternative and power-pop scenes. After lineup changes, the band recorded The Downward Road (1993) under Mercury Records, and later released two albums through the defunct Iron Music label, though commercial success waned. The group ceased studio recording after 1996, returning briefly in 2005 for a greatest-hits compilation and sporadic touring. In 2018 they celebrated the 30th anniversary of Love Junk with a deluxe edition and a series of Canadian performances.
