April Wine

Hard rock band April Wine was originally formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1969 by the Henman brothers – guitarist David and drummer Ritchie - along with cousin Jim on bass and Myles Goodwyn on vocals and guitar. Although the band achieved great success in Canada and the United States, April Wine had a rollercoaster career that was defined by multiple line-up changes amidst their string of successful singles and albums. The band’s first album, April Wine, was released in 1971, followed in 1972 by On Record, which featured a rock cover of Hot Chocolate's “You Could Have Been A Lady.” The stylized version of the pop classic was well received, hitting number 5 in Canada, and stayed in the Billboard Hot 100 for eleven weeks. The frequent line-up changes did little to harm the band's appeal and they continued to build on this early success with numerous gold and platinum selling singles and albums. April Wine began to make waves in the States with 1978’s First Glance but achieved great American success with the albums Harder… Faster (1979), The Nature of the Beast (1981), and Power Play (1982). After the release of Animal Grace (1984), the group undertook their farewell tour but since they owed their label one more album, Myles Goodwyn gathered together a group of musicians and recorded the 1985 album Walking Through the Fire, which was released under the April Wine name. The group name laid dormant until Goodwyn joined forces with keyboardist Brian Greenway (who joined April Wine in 1977) and began to tour under the band’s name again. April Wine released four more studio albums – Attitude (1993), Frigate (1994), Back to the Mansion (2001), and Roughly Speaking (2006) – and continued to perform live. They were inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame in 2010. Over the years, April Wine’s catalog has been bolstered by remastered reissues, compilations, and live albums. Myles Goodwyn, the group’s only original member, retired in March 2023 due to health concerns. On December 3, 2023, Myles Goodwyn died In Halifax at the age of 75.
