Doug and the Slugs, a Canadian pop rock music group, was formed in 1977 in Vancouver, British Columbia by Doug Bennett, who served as the chief songwriter, frontman, and lead singer. The band built an underground following through live performances. Their debut single "Too Bad" was released in 1980 on Ritdong Records and became a top ten hit in Canada. Throughout the 1980s, Doug and the Slugs released several albums, including Cognac and Bologna (1980) and Music for the Hard of Thinking, which peaked at number 22 in Canada and featured the top 40 singles "Who Knows How to Make Love Stay" and "Making It Work". In 1992, the band released Tales from Terminal City. Bennett continued to tour with various musicians under the Doug and the Slugs name until his death from liver cirrhosis in October 2004.
