Devon Sproule was born on 23 April 1982 in Kingston, Ontario, and grew up in the Twin Oaks Community in Virginia, where her parents’ musical background and communal lifestyle shaped her early musical journey. She began recording at sixteen, releasing her debut Devon in 1999, followed by Long Sleeve Story (2001), and Upstate Songs (2003), the latter of which appeared on Rolling Stone’s Critics Top Albums list that year. In 2005, she married producer Paul Curreri, with whom she frequently collaborated and toured across the US and the United Kingdom. Sproule’s discography expanded with Keep Your Silver Shined (2007), Don’t Hurry for Heaven (2009), I Love You, Go Easy (2011), Colours (2013), and The Gold String (2017), all issued on Tin Angel or Waterbug Records. She shared the ASCAP Foundation Sammy Cahn Award in 2009 and earned recognition for her contributions to contemporary folk music.
