Orquestra Mirasol was a Catalan jazz-rock band formed in 1973 in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Catalonia, Spain. Heavily influenced by Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock, the group's original lineup included saxophonist Ricard Roda, keyboardist Víctor Ammann, bassist and composer Xavier Batllés, drummer Miguel Ángel Lizandra, and percussionist Pedrito Díaz. The band's debut studio album, Salsa Catalana (1974), was followed by D'oca a oca i tira que et toca (1975). In 1977, the ensemble rebranded as Mirasol Colores, shifting toward Latin music and salsa, and released the albums La Boqueria (1977) and Linea 5 (1979). The album La Boqueria featured the Catalan-language songs “L'ocellot del mal pèl” and “Rumba criminal”, sung by Manel Joseph. In 1992, the label PDI issued a CD compilation of Salsa Catalana and La Boqueria. The original Orquestra Mirasol lineup reunited in 1998, performing until the late 1990s and recording a live album at the Barcelona venue L'Espai.
