Orplid, a German metal music group from Halle an der Saale, was founded in 1996 by Frank Machau and Uwe Nolte. The band's name is derived from Eduard Mörike's poem "Gesang Weylas". Orplid released their debut album Orplid in October 2000, followed by Nächtliche Jünger in July 2002, Sterbender Satyr in March 2006 and Greifenherz in November 2008. Their music combines neofolk and neoclassical influences, with lyrics inspired by nature mysticism, mythology, and folklore. After a hiatus, Orplid announced in August 2015 that they were working on a new album, Deus vult, which was released in 2020 alongside the vinyl compilation Legatum. Following these releases, Orplid disbanded to form a new band called U.V.D.
