Neun Welten, a German dark folk band, was founded in 2001 in Halle (Saale) by Meinolf Müller, Marten Winter, and Chris Kallenbach. Initially known as Insomnia Astrorum, the group later changed its name to Neun Welten, inspired by the nordic mythology concept of nine worlds connected by the tree Yggdrasil. The band's early lineup included David Zaubitzer and Anja Hövelmann, with Aline Deinert joining in 2002. In 2004, Neun Welten signed with Auerbach Tonträger and released their debut EP Valg. Their debut album Vergessene Pfade was released in 2006, followed by Destrunken in 2009. In 2017, Neun Welten released their third album, The Sea I'm Diving In, marking a stylistic shift with the inclusion of English vocals and a more cinematic approach.
