Louis van Weerdenburg, known professionally as Lou van Burg, was born on August 25, 1917, in The Hague, Netherlands. He began his career as a singer and dancer in various Parisian nightclubs during the early 1950s, including performances at the Lido and Olympia. His breakthrough moment came in 1954 when Polydor Records released his first German single "Nicolo, Nicolo, Nicolino", which became an immediate hit. Van Burg's career expanded into television with appearances in shows like Heut geh'n wir ins Maxim (1956) and roles in TV series produced for American audiences. In 1959, he launched his own successful television show Jede Sekunde ein Schilling, which was later adapted for Dutch audiences as Een kwartje per seconde. Despite controversies that led to a temporary ban from German television in the early 1960s, Van Burg returned with notable shows like Der goldene Schuß (1964-1967) and Varieté, Varieté (1976-1983), becoming one of the most recognised showmasters in the German-speaking region. His career also included live performances at various venues and charitable engagements. Lou van Burg passed away on April 26, 1986, in Munich, Germany.
