Der Botho Lucas Chor, originally known as the Lucas Quartet and later evolving into a larger ensemble, was founded in 1958 by Botho Lucas in Germany. The choir, which initially included Botho Lucas, Bernd Golonsky, Günter Kallmann, and Ralf Paulsen, began its journey with studio recordings featuring well-known performers before transitioning to solo works. Their breakthrough came in 1961 with the song "Danke", which won a competition for new spiritual songs at the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing and became an enduring hit. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Der Botho Lucas Chor had several notable releases including "Berliner Polka" (1961), Küss Mich - Musik Zum Träumen Und Tanzen (1964), and Die Landsknechtstrommel (1963). The choir's repertoire spanned modern folk tunes, operettas, musicals, and hit covers in multiple languages. They collaborated with prominent artists such as Greetje Kauffeld and Wanda Jackson and performed on various television programs. Their 1979 tour with Bert Kaempfert’s orchestra took them through Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and London's Royal Albert Hall. Notable soloists like Ralf Paulsen and Daisy Door contributed to the choir’s distinctive sound. The group also released several hit singles such as "Hör' Auf Deine Frau" (1959),"Danke / Antwort Auf Alle Fragen" (1962) and "Richt'ge Männer Wie Wir" (1965). Botho Lucas passed away in 2012.
