Kenso, a Japanese progressive rock band, was formed in 1974 led by guitarist Yoshihisa Shimizu. The band's compositions were instrumental and influenced by jazz musicians like Pat Metheny and Chick Corea, as well as progressive rock groups from the Canterbury scene such as Camel and National Health. Kenso released their debut album, Kenso I, in 1980. Over the years, they have published over a dozen albums, including notable releases such as Esoptron (1999) and Fabulis Mirabilibus de Bombycosi Scriptis (2002), which were highlighted by critic Paul Stump for their significance in progressive rock. Kenso has been recognized for its cult following and has performed live extensively.
