Jan Plewka was born on October 29, 1970 in Ahrensburg. He is a German singer, musician, lyricist and actor who is considered one of the most influential figures in German-language rock and pop music of the 1990s and 2000s. Jan Plewka began his first musical projects in Hamburg at the end of the 1980s. In 1993, together with Thomas Witte, Florian Glück, Stephan "Stoppel" Eggert and Marco Schmedtje, he founded the band Selig, which was one of the most important representatives of the Hamburg School and played a decisive role in shaping the German-language rock sound in the 1990s. Jan Plewka released the albums Selig (1994), Hier (1995) and Blender (1997) with Selig. After the band split up in 1999, the solo project Zenit (2001) and the duo project TempEau with Marco Schmedtje followed. Selig reunited in 2008 and released Und endlich unendlich (2009), which reached number 5 in the German album charts. This is followed by Von ewig (2010), Magma (2013), Kashmir Karma (2017) and Myriaden (2021). In addition to his work with Selig, Jan Plewka is active as a theater actor and solo artist. Since 2006, he has been interpreting the songs of the Rio Reiser and Ton-Steine-Scherben repertoire with the ensemble Jan Plewka singt Rio Reiser. This project has taken him to numerous theaters and festivals in Germany, including Kampnagel Hamburg, Theaterhaus Stuttgart and Burgtheater Vienna.
