The Music Explosion is an American garage rock band from Mansfield, Ohio. The group, formed in 1966, is best known for their hit single "Little Bit O' Soul". Discovered by producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz, the quintet signed with Laurie Records and released their breakthrough song, a cover of The Little Arlings' track, which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1967. Written by John Carter and Ken Lewis, "Little Bit O' Soul" received gold certification from the RIAA and was produced by Kasenetz, Katz, and Elliot Chiprut. The band's only top 40 hit, it paved the way for bubblegum pop acts like Ohio Express and 1910 Fruitgum Company. Despite their success, The Music Explosion struggled with inconsistent lineups, with singer Jamie Lyons and drummer Robert Avery being the sole constants. Their debut album, Little Bit O' Soul, was released in August 1967. The band disbanded in 1969 after releasing a handful of singles that failed to replicate their initial success. Lyons passed away from a heart attack at the age of 57 on September 25, 2006.
