Bob and Earl is an American soul musical group formed in Los Angeles, California. The original duo consisted of Bobby Day (born Robert James Byrd) and Earl Nelson, both members of The Hollywood Flames doo-wop group before forming Bob and Earl. In 1957, Day began a solo career as Bobby Day, writing "Rockin' Robin" and recording the original version of "Little Bitty Pretty One". Bob and Earl released several singles starting in that same year under the Class record label. Their breakthrough came with Harlem Shuffle (1963), written by Nelson and Bobby Relf. Despite modest success upon its initial release, the song gained significant traction when it was re-released in the UK in 1969, becoming a top ten hit there. In 1964, Bob and Earl signed to Loma Records but released no singles under this label. By 1965, Nelson achieved further success as solo artist Jackie Lee with "The Duck". After their disbandment in the early 1970s, the group reunited for tours following the reissue of Harlem Shuffle. Relf later composed "Bring Back My Yesterday", recorded by Barry White on his album I've Got So Much to Give (1973).
