The Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn (WKO) was founded in 1960 by Jörg Faerber in Heilbronn, Germany. Considered one of Germany's renowned chamber orchestras, the WKO gave its inaugural concert at the Gustav-Siegle-Haus in Stuttgart in January 1961 and quickly established itself through regular performances and tours. In 1974, the WKO embarked on its first American tour with Maurice André as a soloist, followed by tours to Russia and Asia in 1979. The orchestra has collaborated with numerous notable musicians, including Martha Argerich, Rudolf Buchbinder, and Anne-Sophie Mutter. The WKO has released over 500 works under labels such as Deutsche Grammophon-Gesellschaft, Teldec, and EMI.
