S.U.N. Project are a Hamburg group formed in 1996 by bassist Marco Menichelli, drummer, and guitarist Matthias Rumöller. A 1992 trip to India introduced them to Goa trance, shifting the trio from metal to trance. Their debut single "Crazy Stories" (1996) earned them a contract with Spirit Zone Recordings, with whom they released Drosophila (1997) and Macrophage (1998). Subsequent releases—Zwork (1999), Paranormal (2000), "Dance Of The Witches" (2003), Insectified (2003), Wicked (2005), X Black Album (2008), Metallic Taste (2012), and Super Nova (2015)—combined trance with ambient textures. After their drummer left in 2011, Marco Menichelli and Matthias Rumöller toured together, featuring Nina Hagen, and issuing We Dream (2012) and Poor Man’s Opera (2019).
