Punishment of Luxury, also known as Punilux, is an English post-punk band from Newcastle that formed in 1976. The group was founded by Brian Bond, Neville Luxury, Red Helmet, Jimi Giro, and Les Denham. They released their first single, “Puppet Life”, (1978) through the label Small Wonder. After signing with United Artists in 1979, they released the singles “Engine of Excess” (1979) and “Secrets” (1979), followed by the studio album Laughing Academy (1979). The ensemble performed at the Reading Rock Festival that same summer. While recording the concept album Gigantic Days, United Artists was acquired by EMI, and the label subsequently dropped them. Bond left the group following a final European tour. The ensemble disbanded in 1984 but reunited in 1989 and again in 2007. Their discography includes the album 7 (1984) and the shelved recording Gigantic Days (1998). In 2019, they released the definitive career-spanning box set Puppet Life (The Complete Recordings).
