Yungchen Lhamo is a Tibetan singer-songwriter living in the United States. Born in the 1960s in Lhasa, she was given her name by a Buddhist monk at birth. She left Tibet in 1989 and moved to Australia in 1993. Her debut album, Tibetan Prayer, was released in 1995 and won the ARIA Award for Best World Music Album. This success led to her signing with Real World Records, where she released the album Tibet, Tibet in 1996. Her recording history included the albums Coming Home (1998), which reached number 93 on the Australian charts, and Ama (2006). Lhamo has collaborated with artists including Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel and Natalie Merchant. Her music was featured in the film Seven Years in Tibet (1997). In 2013, she issued the album Tayatha in collaboration with Anton Batagov. Her later recordings included the albums Awakening (2022) and One Drop of Kindness (2023). Lhamo is also the founder of the One Drop of Kindness Foundation.
