Alain Vanzo was a French opera singer and composer. He began singing at a young age in a church choir and later performed popular songs with a small ensemble called La Bastringue. His breakthrough came in 1954 when he won 1st prize at a singing contest in Cannes. This led to engagements at the Opéra-Comique and Palais Garnier, where he established himself in roles such as Nadir in Les pêcheurs de perles and Gérald in Lakmé, along with other standard French lyric and Italian repertoire roles. His international career developed after his acclaimed 1960 performance as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Palais Garnier opposite Joan Sutherland, leading to appearances at major opera houses across Europe and in North and South America. Notable recordings include Lakmé with Joan Sutherland under Richard Bonynge. Alain Vanzo died in Paris on January 27, 2002.
