Jeanette Anna MacDonald, born on June 18, 1903 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was an American soprano and actress. She began her career with dance lessons at a young age and performed in local operas and shows. In 1929, she made her film debut in The Love Parade, directed by Ernst Lubitsch and co-starring Maurice Chevalier. This marked the beginning of her successful film career, during which she starred in 29 feature films, including collaborations with Nelson Eddy in Naughty Marietta (1935), Rose-Marie (1936), and Maytime (1937). MacDonald's recordings included hits such as "Dream Lover" and "March of the Grenadiers", earning her three gold records. She also received a Screen Actors Guild award for Maytime. In addition to her film work, she appeared in opera, concerts, radio, and television. MacDonald passed away on January 14, 1965.
