Adam & Eve were a German schlager music duo with two distinct line-ups. The original line-up consisted of Eva Bartova, known as Eve, born on 26 March 1938 in Vejprty, Bohemia (now Czech Republic), and John Christian Dee, known as Adam Nr. 1, born on 5 February 1944 in Tonawanda, New York. Eva Bartova trained as a classical ballet dancer and singer before moving to Germany in 1963. She met John Christian Dee while performing with her band Eve Bartova & The Bartovs, leading to their collaboration as Adam & Eve. In 1966, they released their first single "They can look at us and laugh", which charted successfully and secured them a television appearance. The second lineup of Adam & Eve formed in 1969 when Eva Bartova partnered with Hartmut "Harry" Schairer, known as Adam Nr. 2, born on 23 February 1946 in Stuttgart, Germany. This iteration achieved significant success in the 1970s with hits such as "Wenn die Sonne erwacht in den Bergen" and "Du gehst fort". They also participated in the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980 with "Hallo Adam, Hallo Eva", placing seventh. The duo disbanded in 1982 following Hartmut Schairer and Eva Bartova's divorce. Eva Bartova later moved to the United States and passed away from cancer on 17 September 1989 in Chicago.
