Jiella, a multi-generational Sámi pop group from Karigasniemi, Utsjoki, Finland, was formed in 1999. Led by singer-songwriter and musician Niilo Rasmus, the band initially consisted of Niilo and his daughters Eeva-Liisa and Jenna. They began performing publicly in 1999 under the name Niilo ja nieiddat (Niilo and his daughters), later changing to Jiella, which means "a gentle breeze" in Northern Sámi. In December 2002, their debut album Gosnu (Somewhere) was released, featuring the song "Čeavli" (Arrogance). The band's second album, Eallinbálgát (Life's paths), was released on July 8, 2006. This album included collaborations with Sámi poet Inger-Mari Aikio-Arianaick and featured the yoik "Olát". Jiella's music, which blended traditional Sámi luohti with Western pop and disco elements, remained popular on Sámi radio stations across Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.
