Brita Maret Sofia Jannok, known professionally as Sofia Jannok, was born on September 15, 1982, in Sweden. She is a Swedish Sami singer and songwriter who initially performed with Anna Kärrstedt in the duo Sofia och Anna. Her music career began to take shape with her debut album White - Čeaskat, released in February 2007. She participated in Melodifestivalen 2009 with "Čáhcceloo" and performed at various international events, including the Talvatis Festival in Cardiff, Wales. Jannok received the Áillohaš Music Award in 2014 for her contributions to Sami music and was nominated for a Grammis award for Áhpi. In 2021, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Luleå University of Technology for her work on indigenous rights and environmental advocacy.
