Ronald Cleghorn, known professionally as Ronnie Carroll, was born on August 18, 1934, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He began his career as a singer, initially performing under the stage name "Belfast's Nat King Cole" and later adopting the name "Carroll." His first television appearance occurred on BBC's Camera One in January 1956, where he sang "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing." Ronnie Carroll signed with Philips Records, releasing his debut single "Last Love" that same year. He gained prominence through various touring shows and radio appearances, including New Faces of 1956 and Calling All Stars. His career saw several notable releases, including the albums Sweet Heartaches (1956), Lucky Thirteen (1958), Moonlight Becomes You (1958) Sometimes I'm Happy, Sometimes I'm Blue (1963), Mr & Mrs Is The Name (1964) with Millicent Martin, and Promises, Promises (1969). His singles "Walk Hand in Hand" (1956) and "Roses Are Red (My Love)" (1962) reached the UK charts, with the latter peaking at number 3. He represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 1962 with "Ring-a-Ding Girl" and in 1963 with "Say Wonderful Things," both times sharing fourth place. Ronnie Carroll also appeared on various TV shows and films, including Blind Corner. In his later years, he released a comeback album titled Back on Song in 2005. Ronnie Carroll passed away on April 13, 2015, at the age of 80.
