Janez Bončina, nicknamed Benč, is a Slovenian composer, guitarist, and singer who was born in Ljubljana, PR Slovenia, FPR Yugoslavia, in 1947. He achieved early professional recognition in the mid-1960s with the group Helioni and is famous for being a leading author and performer of Yugoslavian rock music and for founding the group September. Bončina performed with the ensembles Mladi Levi and The Generals before establishing the rock group Srce in 1972. He gained international recognition with the jazz rock band September, which was founded in 1975 and released the studio recordings Luduj s nama (1975) and Domovina moja (1978). He returned to the music scene as a soloist in 1983 with the studio recording Ob šanku. His later projects include the group Yunk – Junaki nočne kronike, formed in 1988, and the compilation Bendologija (1999), which received the Golden Rooster award for best compilation.
