Oscar Alberto Ghiglia, born on August 13, 1938, in Livorno, Italy, was an Italian classical guitarist. Coming from an artistic family, he initially explored painting before dedicating himself to music. Ghiglia graduated from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and studied under Andrés Segovia, who became a major influence. He founded the Guitar Department at the Aspen Music Festival and taught at various institutions, including the Accademia Musicale Chigiana and the Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel. Notable albums include Grande Sonate In A Major For Guitar And Violin, Tarantella In A Minor, and Six Sonatas, Op. 3 For Violin And Guitar. Ghiglia collaborated with prominent musicians such as Victoria de los Ángeles, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and the Juilliard String Quartet. He was a founding member of the International Classic Guitar Quartet. He died on March 3, 2024.
