Steffen Schorn, born on September 26, 1967, in Aalen, Germany, is a saxophonist and composer known for his work in jazz and contemporary music. He started playing the trumpet at age six and later switched to saxophone, composing his first pieces as an autodidact. Schorn's early career included memberships in various youth orchestras, such as the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Jazz Orchestra from 1986 to 1990. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik Köln (Cologne University of Music) from 1988 to 1992 and concurrently pursued bass clarinet studies in Rotterdam. In 1990, he co-founded the Timeless Art Orchester with Klaus Graf and began a long-standing duo collaboration with Claudio Puntin. Schorn has been a member of notable ensembles, including the Kölner Saxophon Mafia since 1994 and the NDR Bigband since 1997. His discography includes Cellular Structures (2018) with the Steffen Schorn Ensemble and Wazairo (2019) with the Lars Andreas Haug Band.
