The Raschèr Saxophone Quartet is a classical and modern music ensemble founded in 1969 in the United States. The group was established by Sigurd Raschèr and his daughter, Carina Raschèr. The quartet relocated to Germany and established its base there. The ensemble performed at venues including Carnegie Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. The Wiener Zeitung referred to the group as the “Uncrowned Kings of the Saxophone”. More than 250 composers dedicated works to the ensemble, including Philip Glass, Sofia Gubaidulina, and Iannis Xenakis. The quartet collaborated with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Its discography included the studio recordings The Raschèr Saxophone Quartet (1994), Europe (2001), and The Eight Sounds (2011). The ensemble also performed with voices on recordings including “Canticum Novissimi Testamenti II”. The group established the Raschèr Saxophone Orchestra in 1999.
