Naomi Kawashima (川島なお美), born 10 November 1960 in Moriyama, Aichi, Japan, entered the entertainment industry as a singer and actress after graduating from Aoyama Gakuin University. She debuted in 1979 and gained early exposure on the television show Owarai Manga Dōjō in 1982, which helped launch her recording career. Her first album, Hello!, was released in 1982, followed by singles such as "Namida no Umi" (22 October 1997) and later releases including the Actrice EP in 2009. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Kawashima released several compilation albums—including Best Album W (22 December 1993), Golden☆Best (25 June 2003), and NEW BEST 1500 (24 August 2005)—which consolidated her popular tracks and maintained her presence in the pop music market. She continued to perform and appear in media until her death from bile duct cancer on 24 September 2015 at age 54. Kawashima’s work earned her recognition in both music and television, with notable appearances on programs such as Miss DJ Request Parade (1981) and Wakamono no Subete (1994). Posthumously, her legacy continued through retrospectives and memorial editions, underscoring her impact on Japanese pop culture.
