Maki Nomiya (野宮 真貴), born 12 March 1960 in Japan, is a Japanese pop singer who began her career in the early 1980s. After releasing her debut solo album Pink no Kokoro in 1981, she joined the new‑wave band Portable Rock as lead vocalist, gaining visibility in the Japanese music scene. In 1991 she became the frontwoman of the influential Shibuya‑kei group Pizzicato Five, contributing to the band’s international reach until its disbandment in 2001. Following the group’s split, Maki Nomiya pursued a solo trajectory, issuing a series of albums such as Miss Maki Nomiya Sings (2000), Lady Miss Warp (2002), Dress Code (2004), and Party People (2005). She collaborated with artists including M‑Flo on the EP Maki Nomiya Loves M‑Flo (2005) and Fernanda Takai on Maki‑Takai No Jetlag (2009). Her later works continued the Shibuya‑kei aesthetic with titles like Miss Maki Nomiya Sings Shibuya‑kei Standards (2014) and New Beautiful (2022). Throughout her career, Maki Nomiya has maintained a steady presence in Japan’s pop landscape, with her recordings regularly charting and her influence recognized in retrospectives of the Shibuya‑kei movement.
