Jason Lee Roebke, also known as Jason Roebke, born in 1974 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, is an American jazz and improvisational musician known for his work as a double bass player, cracklebox, percussionist, and pianist. He began playing the double bass at age 14 and later studied under Roscoe Mitchell after graduating from Lawrence University. Roebke earned his Master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1998 and moved to Chicago, where he became part of the city’s avant-garde jazz scene. His debut album Rapid Croche was released in 2003 on 482 Music. Throughout his career, Roebke has been involved in numerous projects, including the ensembles Arrive, Tigersmilk, and Flatlands Collective. Notable releases include High/Red/Center (2014) with his octet. He has also contributed to albums by Greg Ward, Jason Stein, Tomeka Reid, and Jeb Bishop, among others. Roebke received several awards, including the Artist Fellowship in Music Composition from the Illinois Arts Council in 2009.
