Cayetano César Concepción Martínez, born on July 28, 1909, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, was a trumpeter, arranger, orchestra leader, and composer. He began his musical journey at age ten with trumpet lessons from Claudio Torres. He later moved to New York and played with Eddie LeBaron’s orchestra, recording tracks by Ernesto Lecuona and Eliseo Grenet. Returning to Puerto Rico in 1942, he joined Armando Castro and his band and composed the hit "Jack, Jack, Jack / Cutúguru", which entered the U.S. charts in 1945. Concepción also formed his own orchestra in New York in 1947. He disbanded his orchestra in 1968 and returned again to Puerto Rico in 1972 to form a new ensemble with Joe Valle. Concepción died on March 11, 1974, from complications of a heart attack.
