Toni Fisher, born on December 4, 1924 in Los Angeles, California, was an American pop singer. Her breakthrough came with her 1959 release "The Big Hurt", written by her manager Wayne Shanklin. The track reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 30 on the UK Singles Chart. Notably, "The Big Hurt" featured an innovative flanging effect, created accidentally during mixing. Toni Fisher's powerful voice stood out over the phasing and background noise. The song was recorded at Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles and later covered by various artists including Wes Montgomery and Nick Cave. In 1962, Toni Fisher achieved another Top 40 hit with "West of the Wall", a song about the sadness of lovers separated by the Berlin Wall. Following her marriage to Henry Monzello, she was known as Toni F. Monzello. Toni Fisher passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 12, 1999 at the age of 74 due to a heart attack.
