Donald Ross Cherry, known as Don Cherry, was born on January 11, 1924, in Wichita Falls, Texas. After studying voice post-military service, he began his singing career in the late 1940s with orchestras led by Jan Garber, Tommy Dorsey, and Victor Young. His breakthrough came in 1950 with "Mona Lisa", which reached number 10. That year, his single "Thinking Of You" peaked at number 4 on the US charts. Cherry signed with Decca Records and later moved to Columbia Records, achieving his biggest commercial success with "Band Of Gold" in 1955, reaching number four in the Billboard Top 100 and earning a gold record. He also had notable hits like "Wild Cherry" and "Ghost Town". Despite his success, he focused on golf in the late 1950s, returning to music briefly in the 1960s with Monument Records. He passed away on April 4, 2018, in Las Vegas.
