Grupo Vocal Argentino is an Argentine folk music group formed in Buenos Aires in 1966. Founded by Chango Farías Gómez, the original quintet included Jorge Raúl Batallé, Luis María Batallé, Galo Hugo García, and Amilcar Daniel Scalisi. The band released its eponymous debut album in 1966, followed by Misa Criolla (1968). Notable tracks include “Zamba de los yuyos” and “Milonga del peón de campo”. The group became inactive in 1970. In 1973, the members except Farías Gómez reunited as Grupo Vocal Argentino Nuevo to record Misa para el Tercer Mundo, which was suppressed by the government. Simultaneously, Carlos Marrodán formed an octet with Farías Gómez’s blessing. This second-stage band released Chango Farías Gómez presenta al Grupo Vocal Argentino (1974) and Sueño del alma (1990). The group won a gold medal at the 2002 World Choir Games and performed at the Cosquín Festival in 2024.
