Jorge Antonio Cafrune Herrera, known professionally as Jorge Cafrune, was an Argentine folk singer and musician born on August 8, 1937, in El Carmen. In 1957, he formed the group Las Voces del Huayra and released the recording Las voces de Huayra. In 1962, he appeared at the Festival de Cosquín, where he was named the first revelation. Cafrune introduced artists including José Larralde and Mercedes Sosa during his performances at the festival in the 1960s. Between 1972 and 1974, he performed in a duo with Marito. His discography included the studio albums Emoción, canto y guitarra (1964), Zamba por vos (1969), and Jorge Cafrune en las Naciones Unidas (1976). During his appearance at the Festival de Cosquín in January 1978, he performed the song “Zamba de mi esperanza”. Cafrune died on February 1, 1978, following a vehicle accident in Benavídez. Posthumous recordings included the compilation Jorge Cafrune 20 Grandes Canciones (1991).
