The Bodines were an English pop‑rock group formed in Glossop, near Manchester, in 1985 by vocalist and guitarist Michael Ryan and guitarist Paul Brotherton, joined by drummer Paul Lilley and bassist Tim Burwood. The duo, both recently out of school, assembled the band to pursue a professional music career. Their first release, the single "God Bless" (Creation Records, 1985), introduced the group to the indie scene and led to a second single, "Therese", which appeared on the influential C86 compilation by New Musical Express in 1986. The Bodines signed with Magnet Records that year, releasing the single "Skankin Queens" and the album Played (Magnet, 1987), which entered the UK album charts at number 94; the follow‑up single "Slip Slide" failed to chart. After a brief period of touring, including a supporting slot for New Order on a Canadian tour, the band disbanded in early 1990. A short reunion in 1989 produced the single "Decide" on Play‑Hard Records, but the group dissolved again. In 2007, Firestation Records issued the EP Shrinkwrap, and in 2010 Cherry Red Records re‑issued Played with seven bonus tracks, preserving the Bodines’ contribution to the late 1980s indie‑pop movement.
