The Clouds, an indie rock band from Sydney, Australia, formed in December 1989 with frontwomen Jodi Phillis on guitar and vocals, and Patricia "Trish" Young on bass and vocals. The group secured a recording contract with Red Eye Records in 1990 and released their debut EP Cloud Factory that October, which peaked at number 118 on the ARIA charts. Their follow-up EP Loot, featuring the song "Soul Eater", reached number 22 on the ARIA chart in April 1991. The Clouds' first studio album, Penny Century, was released in October 1991 and peaked at number 23, spawning the singles "Hieronymous" and "Anthem". Their second album, Octopus, followed in October 1992, reaching number 24 on the ARIA charts. The band's third album, Thunderhead, was released in October 1993 and peaked at number 30. In 1994, they toured Europe and the United States, securing a deal with Elektra Records. Despite being dropped by Elektra shortly after, The Clouds continued to release music, including their fourth studio album Futura in November 1996, which peaked at number 50 on the ARIA chart. The group disbanded in 1997 but reunited in 2011 for tours and new releases, including the EP Zaffre in February 2017.
