Sibel Alaş, born Sibel on February 13, 1973, in Istanbul, Turkey, is a singer-songwriter. She graduated from the American Culture and Literature Department at Istanbul University. Before her solo career, she was both vocalist and dancer for Yonca Evcimik. Her breakthrough came with "Adam" from her debut album Adam in 1995. Alaş released her second album, Fem, in 1996. After marrying her manager Zeki Aköz in 1996 and adopting a daughter named Tuğçe in 1998, she took a break from music due to health issues, including an aneurysm and arteriovenous malformation which required brain surgery in 2005. She returned with the album Carpe Diem in 2006. In addition to her musical career, Alaş also became known for translating works such as Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and A Game of Thrones.
