Michele Campanella is an Italian pianist and conductor born on June 5, 1947, in Naples. He studied with Vincenzo Vitale and received the Alfredo Casella Prize at age 19. Campanella performed internationally in countries including Australia, China, and Brazil. He appeared at festivals in Lucerne, Vienna, and Berlin and worked with conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Riccardo Muti. His discography featured recordings of the complete works of Beethoven and the studio recordings Liszt: Complete Hungarian Rhapsodies (1999) and Liszt: The Complete Wagner & Verdi Transcriptions (2013). Campanella received the Grand Prix du Disque from the Franz Liszt Society in 1976, 1977, and 1998. He served as a professor at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana and was a member of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
