Giovanni Mirabassi, born in Perugia in 1970, developed a passion for the piano at a very young age and discovered jazz at his hometown’s festival. After settling in France in the 1990s, he studied under Aldo Ciccolini and quickly made a name for himself on the international scene. The recipient of 17 gold records, a Jazz Academy Award, a Django d’Or, and the Andrée Chedid Composition Grant, Mirabassi has built a unique body of work, ranging from virtuoso trio performances to orchestral projects and prestigious collaborations (Glenn Ferris, Peter Bernstein, Stefon Harris, Charles Aznavour) and tributes to socially conscious songwriting (Ferré, Leprest, Darc, Dimey).
In 2017, Giovanni Mirabassi founded the independent label Jazz Eleven with singer Sarah Lancman, conceived as a creative space driven by and for artists. Having been named a Chevalier de l’art et des lettres in 2021, the Italian pianist produces major jazz artists (The Hookup, Toku…) as well as emerging talents (Mark Priore, Pamina Beroff…), while continuing his own work (“The Swan And The Storm,” 2022 / “Live & Kicking,” 2024 / “NEW YORK SESSIONS VOL.1,” 2025).
Giovanni Mirabassi is now preparing the release of “Più Avanti!,” a piano tribute to the revolutionary songs that have shaped his life, as well as to the masterpiece of his career, “Avanti!”
