Deviated Instinct is a British crustcore and death metal band from Norwich, formed in 1984 by vocalist Julian "Leggo" Kilsby, guitarist Robert "Mid" Middleton, bassist Ian Clitheroe, and drummer Trevor Cockburn. They released their first demo Tip of the Iceberg (1985). After a lineup change, they released the demo Terminal Filth Stenchcore (1986), marking the beginning of the stenchcore movement. In 1987, they released the EP Welcome to the Orgy (1987) with Peaceville Records. Their debut album Rock 'n' Roll Conformity (1988) followed. They recorded their second studio album Guttural Breath (1989). They also released the EP Nailed (1990). They disbanded in 1991 after a final show with Godflesh and Fudge Tunnel. They reformed in 2007 for live performances and released the EP Liberty Crawls … to the Sanctuary of Slave (2012) on Profane Existence.
