Immortal Souls, a melodic death metal band from Kokkola, Finland, was formed in December 1991 by Aki Särkioja and Esa Särkioja. The group initially recorded demo tapes, including Immortal Souls in 1995. In 1998, Immortal Souls released their first EP, Divine Wintertime, establishing their signature winter theme. They later signed with Little Rose Productions and released The Cleansing EP in 2000. Their debut full-length album, Under the Northern Sky, was released in 2001. Immortal Souls signed with Fear Dark in 2002, leading to the release of Once Upon a Time in the North in August 2005 and Wintereich in June 2007. The band performed at the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival and released IV: The Requiem for The Art of Death in 2011.
