Sona Diabaté, a Guinean singer born in Tiro in 1959, began her musical journey under the tutelage of her father, Hadji Djeli Fodé Diabaté, who taught her to sing and play the balafon. After completing her education, she embarked on a career as a griot singer. A pivotal moment came when she met Miriam Makeba in Guinea, which led her to join Les Amazones de Guinée, Africa's first all-female music group. Diabaté released several albums, including Sons de la savane (1983) and Kankele-Ti (1988). Her song "Garé-Garé" reached number 3 on the World Music Charts Europe in 1996. She also performed at the Festival de Würzburg and collaborated with the world music group Argile, and appeared on their live albums Live in Africa & Europe (1998) featuring Sona Diabete.
