Starcastle, banda de rock progresivo de Estados Unidos, se formó en 1969 en la Universidad de Illinois. James, la banda sufrió varios cambios de formación y de nombre antes de decidirse por Starcastle en 1974. Su álbum de debut, Starcastle, publicado en febrero de 1976 por Epic Records, supuso su consagración. Al año siguiente, lanzaron Fountains of Light, producido por Roy Thomas Baker, que recibió elogios de la crítica a pesar de no cumplir la visión original de la banda. En 1977 y 1978, Starcastle publicó Citadel y Real to Reel, este último con un sonido más pop. La banda se disolvió en 1987 tras una serie de cambios de formación, pausas y problemas con la industria. Entre sus lanzamientos póstumos destacan Song of Times (2007) y Alive In America: Live 1978 (2006/2007).
