Eric Alexander Mercury, nació el 28 de junio de 1944 en Toronto, Ontario, Canadá, fue un cantante. Comenzó su carrera como parte de The Soul Searchers durante la década de 1960. En 1966, Eric Alexander Mercury lanzó su primer sencillo "I Wondered Why" / "Softly" con The Silhouettes. Más tarde se trasladó a Nueva York y publicó su álbum debut en solitario Electric Black Man en 1969 con Avco Embassy. Entre sus éxitos destacan "I Can Smell that Funky Music", que alcanzó la lista de éxitos en Canadá en 1972, y un dúo con Roberta Flack, "Our Love Will Stop the World", que llegó a las listas estadounidenses en 1983.
