Ken Boothe fue un incondicional de la escena reggae de Kingston en la década de 1960 y grabó una plétora de álbumes y sencillos, muchos de los cuales fueron éxitos en su Jamaica natal. Su mayor éxito como artista de reggae se produjo en 1963, cuando se presentó a una audición en el estudio de grabación del legendario Duke Reid junto con su vecino Stranger Cole, uno de los primeros exponentes del ska en Jamaica. Ambos formaron el dúo Stranger and Ken y cosecharon una serie de éxitos hasta 1966, año en que Boothe inició su carrera en solitario.

Tras fichar por Studio One, Boothe tuvo un éxito inmediato con el sencillo "The Train Is Coming", respaldado por The Wailers. Más tarde, en 1995, volvió a grabar esta canción junto con Shaggy para la película "Money Train".

Más conocido por su éxito de 1974 en el Reino Unido, "Everything I Own", que alcanzó el número uno, Boothe sólo disfrutó de una incursión más en las listas británicas con su sencillo "Crying Over You", que llegó al número 11. La posterior quiebra de Trojan Records le costó la vida. La posterior quiebra de Trojan Records y su separación del productor Lloyd Charmers hicieron tambalearse la carrera de Boothe, que nunca recuperó el impulso que había cobrado. Continuó su carrera discográfica y en 2003 el Gobierno jamaicano le concedió la Orden de la Distinción por sus servicios a la música.
